Two virus deaths are reported this week

Big Horn County reported 2 virus deaths this week, on in December 2020 and one in January 2021, Rhonda Johnson, Big Horn County Public Information Officer said in two media releases this week.

A woman in her 80s was reported dead to county officials on Dec. 31; a woman in her 70s was reported dead to county officials on Jan 4; both the deceased were hospitalized prior to their deaths, Johnson said.

The county’s seven-day average dropped from 4.14 last Tuesday to 3.86 this Tuesday, Johnson said.

According to public health data, the county’s overall COVID mortality rate as of Wednesday is 2.98% with 65 deaths since the first virus diagnosis in April.

The county announced 27 new virus cases this week, bringing the total amount of infected residents as of Wednesday, 2,180, Johnson reported. Reported recoveries have gone up to 2,066, Johnson reported, an increase of 16 cases.

According to county public health data, since the beginning of the pandemic, 16.34% of the county’s population has been infected with the virus compared to a 7.86% statewide infection rate.

Of this week’s new cases, 12, or 44%, have been attributed to community spread, which means the cases cannot be traced back to known contact with someone who has tested positive. There are currently 19 infected patients hospitalized.

There are 27 patients recovering at home, Johnson said.

Four cases were reported on Jan. 5: One woman in her 30s; one woman in her 40s; one woman in her 60s; and one man 70 or older.

Six new cases were reported on Jan. 4: One girl and two boys under 10; one woman in her 50s; one woman in her 60s; and one man 70 or older.

Five cases were reported on Jan. 3: Three boys under 10; one girl in her teens; and one man in his 50s.

Six cases were reported on Dec. 31: One boy under 10; one boy in his teens; two women and one man in their 30s; and one woman in her 40s.

Six cases were reported on Dec. 30: Two men in their 20s; one woman and one man in their 30s; one man in his 40s; and one man in his 60s.
