Tips offered on dealing with hazard of slippery surfaces

“Don’t slip up this winter” is a news article from the Safety and Health Magazine. Here are some excerpts:

“Winter weather is a headache to travel in, but when people arrive at their destination, they have to face yet another hazard: sidewalks and parking lots that may be icy or slick.

“To help stay safe while navigating parking lots in wintry conditions, the Snow and Ice Management Association recommends the following to people:

“Wear appropriate footwear that has visible, heavy treads and a flat bottom.

“Walk slowly and consciously when snow or ice is present, and use handrails if available.

“Look where you are stepping and anticipate slippery surfaces.

“Black ice – sometimes called clear ice – often appears early in the mornings, in shady areas, or where the sun shines during the day and melted snow refreezes at night.

“Do not listen to music or talk on a cell phone while walking. Also, keep alert for any vehicles and snow removal equipment.

“Watch for wet floors when entering a building, as others may have tracked in snow and slush.

“Look up for snow or ice that may fall or break away from awnings, buildings and windows.”

This past week, the Fun For You Day was fun for all. Sponsored by Shirley Margheim and Little Horn State Bank, it is held on the last Wednesday of the month in the afternoon. We enjoyed Shirley’s leprechaun-like green poke cake. She is a very fine hostess.

Cliff and Margaret Arbogast, the Photo Gallery Committee, have on display new photos of our happy people at the Hardin Senior Center, and scenery and wildlife pictures. Photo of the Month is of Mrs. Pat Anderson.

Coming up at the senior center is the Seniors Association meeting at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9. Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 11 (turn clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night), bingo on Tuesday, March 13 and a movie in the afternoon of March 14. A St. Patrick’s Day lunch of corned beef and cabbage is on the menu on Friday, March 16. You must sign up ahead of time for the March 16 dinner.

The birthday dinner is on Wednesday, March 21. All reservations including congregate, homedelivered, takeout or pickup must be made no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20. You can call the senior center at (406) 665-2581. You may leave a message if you need to.

The weekday meals require reservations as well. Please call by 10 a.m. if you are coming for lunch, if you need a home delivered meal or if you want to pick up a meal.

We are located at 317 N. Custer in the Little Big Horn Center Complex at the south door.
