Social Security Admin details senior’s benefit options

Red roses, the June flower, were given to the special birthday guests from hostess, Pat Anderson, on June 20 at the birthday dinner. Guests included Dick Chapple, Lorraine Kuntz, Genie Thorberg and Miriam Old Coyote.

The birthday cake from Big Horn IGA bakery was decorated with pink and lavender. It was donated by Shirley and Cliff Groombridge.

First Interstate Bank provides the cost of the ingredients of the meal with an annual grant that benefits both the Hardin Senior Center and Lodge Grass Senior Center. Holly Higgins from FIB helped to serve the meal to 60 patrons. A thank you is sent to the bank for their ongoing support for programs that benefit our senior citizens.

The Seniors Association 50-50 raffle prize of $54.50 was won by Tom Warren.

Out of town guests were Ruth Benzel’s daughter Dianna and son-in-law Larry Rice.

Thinking of You cards were signed and sent to Kris and Richard Clausen, and Bonnie Vandersloot from all of us.

The summer’s fundraiser for the Seniors Association is a gift basket and tickets are on sale. The drawing is Sept. 4. Stop in at the Hardin Senior Center at 317 N. Custer to buy your chances.

Types of benefits you can apply for include:

Retirement or Spouse’s Benefits – You must be at least 61 years and 9 months old, and want your benefits to start no more than four months into the future. Apply at www.socialsecurity.gov/retireonline.

Disability – You can apply online for disability benefits or continue an application you already started. Apply for disability at www.socialsecurity.gov/disabilityonline.

Extra Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Costs – Many people need assistance with the cost of medications. Apply for Extra Help at www.socialsecurity.gov/i1020.

Medicare – Medicare is a national health insurance program administered by the U.S. federal government that began in 1966. You can apply online or continue an application you already started at www.socialsecurity.gov/retireonline.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) – SSI is a federal income program funded by general tax revenue designed to help aged, blind and disabled people who have little or no income. You may be able to apply online if you meet certain requirements. See if you can apply online for SSI at www.socialsecurity.gov/benefitsssi.

Social Security provides benefits for millions of people including wounded warriors and children, the chronically ill and the disabled who cannot work. Find the help you or your family need at www.socialsecurity.gov/benefits.
