The year 2018 showed an increase in services provided by the Big Horn County Council on Aging in Hardin. We totaled 5,570 congregate meals and 1,885 home-delivered meals. At the end of November, this was an increase of 739 meals served from the previous year.

We need to keep these services for our community. Your participation and presence really counts. Please make it a point to take advantage of our Senior Center’s services. The Lodge Grass Senior Center is a vital part of their town. It is a part of our Council on Aging. We hope that more people will visit that Center as well.

The Photo Gallery Committee has chosen eight portraits for Photos of the Year 2018. They include Lorraine Kuntz, Betty Sjostrom, Richard Chapple, Sachie Clark, Betty Jean Seder, Ruth Benzel, Etta Kollekowski, and Elaine Malensek. The photos were taken by Margaret Arbogast and are on display here.

The new Photo of the Month for January is of Loretta Stewart. Her natural beauty is shown through in the wonderful portrait taken of her. In a future column this month, I will share her interesting life story.

First Interstate Bank has donated $120 to the Council on Aging for their service hours last year. Each month, a volunteer employee helps to serve our birthday dinner, which the bank sponsors.

A friend to many and a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt to her family has passed away recently. Debbie Luther Salveson was a lifelong Hardin resident, wife of Jerry Salveson. Debbie worked at the Big Horn County Health Department, keeping everyone organized in the office. Debbie was the oldest daughter of Deloris and Tom Luther. We send our sincere condolences to the family.

From the Medicare Rights Center is contact information for assistance.

You can call 1-800-633-4227 if you have questions about what services are covered and at what cost under Original Medicare. You can also call to find providers who accept assignment in your area.

You can call your Medicare Advantage Plan/Part D plan directly with questions about your prescription drug formulary, in-network providers, and plan’s costs and restrictions for accessing care.

You can call your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) at 10-800-551-3191 in Montana, for information about how to find Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage providers that accept assignment or are in your plan’s network. Your SHIP can also help you appeal service denials and find Medicare coverage that works well for you.

You can call your Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) in Montana if you believe you were a victim of Medicare fraud or abuse. Your SMP can help you identify cases of fraud or attempted fraud, such as having been pressured into signing something you did not understand, a provider’s refusal to bill Medicare without an explanation or misleading plan marketing. Your SMP can also help you report cases of fraud or abuse to the proper authorities.
