Plenty Coups fans cheer for their team during Thursday’s tournament. Pryor was practically a ghost town last week as many of the residents traveled to Miles City to support the Warriors and Lady Warriors at the Southern C Divisional tournament. On Thursday, the first day of the tournament there were only six students in attendance at Arrow Creek Elementary.

In a packed house in Miles City Monday two Southern C Division teams’ fates were sealed.

The Plenty Coup Warriors fell to a determined Melstone team in a sudden death playoff game that decided who would represent the division at the State C basketball tournament in the Garden City next weekend.

Plenty Cops dominated the tournament beating Terry 54-43, Broadus 46-40 before ultimately falling to Jordan by 7 points for a second place finish in the Southern C Division tournament.

Unfortunately for Plenty Coups, Melstone called for a challenge game which was set immediately after the championship round.

Melstone had defeated Bridger for third place in the consolation game, but since Melstone did not face Plenty Coup in tournament play they were eligible to play against the second place team

In the first quarter of play, the Warriors were up by 4 points, however midway through the second quarter Melstone edged ahead by just a few points, they held that short lead through the third quarter.

In the fourth, a frustrated Plenty Coup team, hindered by foul trouble, missed opportunities succumbed to a hot shooting Melstone team, who shot better than 90% at the charity stripe. Four of Plenty Coups’ key players fouled out in the waning minutes of the game. The Warriors only shot a handful of free throws.
