Last April, I had the opportunity to visit with Valerie McMurtry by phone. She shared her concerns and her decision to run for the District 2 Public Service Commissioner. She said has noticed the rising North Western Energy electric rates. NWE's plans to purchase an additional 125% of Colstrip Unit 4 for $.50 will likely result in another significant electric rate increase.

Additional costs could include maintenance, repairs, and purchase of coal. The current PSC members are not disclosing what these costs are or how they would affect us as ratepayers.

Valerie's hopes and plans to come meet and visit with us in Big Horn County were seriously curtailed by the pandemic. She was here several months ago for Big Horn Days where several of us did meet and visit with her. She is a retired public school teacher who truly does have our best interests at heart. Her gifts as a teacher are a big asset. She pledges to attend all meetings and to consider ratepayers' concerns ahead of shareholders. Please cast your important vote for Valerie McMurtry in this election!
