Harry “Leroy” Uffelman

Harry “Leroy” Uffelman moved on to Heaven, the greenest golf course, on January 10, 2023, in Casa Grande, AZ. He was just a few days shy of his eighty first birthday. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a passionate farmer, and an avid golfer.

He was born on January 13, 1942, in Hardin, MT to Alex Sr. and Marie (Nedens) Uffelman. He was raised on the family farm south of Hardin alongside his 8 sisters and 7 brothers. He attended St. Xavier Public School and Hardin High School.

After his schooling, he served a brief time in the Army Reserve. He helped construct the Yellowtail Dam while employed with Continental Drilling. On December 4, 1966, Leroy married Verna Abell. To this union 2 sons were born; Steve and Scott. The couple purchased their farm in 1972, and began farming full time. Leroy devoted his life to growing wheat and sugar beets, and raising cattle. Even after “retiring” and passing the farm on to his boys, he remained actively involved, and was a big help during harvests. He took great pride in helping the boys continue to grow the farm.

Leroy and Verna were active members of the Fort Custer Golf Club before moving to Huntley, MT in 2004, when they became members of the Pryor Creek Golf Club. He and Verna spent many winters in California and Arizona soaking up the sun on various golf courses. He loved golfing and was active in leagues even in his final days.

Leroy had a competitive spirit. He loved following sports of all levels. Supporting his granddaughters’ athletics was one of his greatest joys. He never missed a nearby game, and could always be heard in the stands. He also enjoyed sharing dinner with friends, and going on scenic drives in his pickup, observing crops all along his travels. His top priorities were always farming and family.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, Alex Sr. and Marie Uffelman; brother, Alex Uffelman; and sister, Clara Eshelman.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Verna; his children, Steve (Penny) Uffelman and Scott (Crystal) Uffelman; granddaughters, Shayna (Kasey) Dressler, Shelby, Demi, and Abby Uffelman; siblings, Henry Uffelman, Bill (Helen) Uffelman, Esther Jacques, Dorothy (Bill) Stenerson, Betty Seder, Louise (Jim) Kelly, Kathryn (Sam) DeSantis, David (Sandy) Uffelman, Helen (Jerry) Rupert, Vic (Denise) Uffelman, Ed (Jill) Uffelman, Bob (Kay) Uffelman, Carol (Pat) Cavanaugh; brother in law, Bill Eshelman; and his many nieces and nephews.
