Forty-two spellers from four area schools met last week for the annual Big Horn County Spelling Bee. Students in fifth through eighth grade from Lodge Grass, Hardin and Fort Smith held their own spelling bees and the winners advanced to the countywide competition on Feb. 27.

This year’s county champion is Kaden Billin, an eighth grader from Hardin Middle School. He is the son of Aaron Billin and Kristi Dorn.

The runner-up is Lyric Kelly, a seventh grader from Lodge Grass School. She is the daughter of Rudy and Charity Kelly.

Kaden, who spelled “stucco” for the championship, advances to the Montana State Spelling Bee on March 16 at Rocky Mountain College in Billings. The state champion will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C. in May.
