Hardin Board of Trustees select finalists for superintendent of schools

The Hardin Board of Trustees has announced the selection of five finalists for the position of superintendent of Hardin Public Schools.

“We are excited of the five finalists we have selected to interview,” Board Chair Jodeen Marston said, “and look forward to learning more about their experiences and how those experiences can help move our district forward.”

The five candidates chosen as finalists (in alphabetical order) are:

Jeffery “Scott” Brokaw – Brokaw currently is the Hardin Middle School principal and has held that position for the past 11 years. He also has 28 years of experience as a special education teacher. Brokaw received his Master’s Degree in School Administration (K-12 Principal) from Montana State University-Northern in Havre, Mont., a Master’s of Science Degree in Special Education from Montana State University-Billings, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill.

Jason Cummins – Cummins is currently the elementary principal for Crow Agency Elementary School in Crow Agency. He also has served as superintendent/principal for Wyola Public Schools in Wyola, a mentor-indigenous leadership consultant for Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., high school and middle school principal for Pryor Public Schools in Pryor, and as a math teacher for Lodge Grass Public Schools in Lodge Grass. He received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Montana State University in Bozeman and his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Montana State University-Billings.

Eldon “Chad” Johnson – Johnson is currently the superintendent of Twin Bridges Public Schools in Montana. He previously served as superintendent/K-12 principal for Fromberg Public Schools and the Melstone Public Schools. He also was a high school science teacher for six years in Stanford Public Schools and in Melstone Public Schools. Johnson received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Montana State University-Bozeman.

Kenneth Larson – Larson has been the high school principal of Conrad Public Schools in Conrad, Mont. for the past 11 years. Prior to this position, he served as the high school principal for the Circle Public Schools, and as a business teacher in the Corvallis and Charlo Public Schools. Larson received his Master’s in Educational Leadership from Capella University in Minneapolis and his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Montana State University-Billings.

Leland Stocker – Stocker is currently the superintendent of Belgrade Public Schools in Montana. He has previously served as assistant superintendent for the Havre Public Schools in Havre, Mont. and superintendent of Gardiner Public Schools in Gardiner, Mont. Stocker also has served as a principal in the Delta Greely School District, Delta Junction, Alaska and the Bristol Bay Borough School District in Naknek, Alaska. He received his Master’s in Education Leadership from Montana State University-Bozeman, his Master’s in Business Education from Portland State University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing Education and Psychology from Central Washington University and an Associate in Arts Degree in Business from Olympic College in Washington.

The Hardin Board of Trustees will be conducting interviews of the finalists on Monday, April 30, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Hardin Middle School auditorium and Tuesday, May 1 beginning at 4:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and observe the interviews.
