Esther “Lydia” Stricker, 97, a lifetime resident of the Hardin area, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021.

She was born February 6, 1923 in Lodge Grass, Montana the daughter of Gottfried and Elizabeth (Young) Nedens.

She grew up and received her education in Lodge Grass, Crow Agency and St. Xavier. She met the love of her life, Fred Stricker, and they married on August 29, 1941. They made their home together for 60 years before Fred’s death in 2001. During these years, they farmed in the Hardin area.

Lydia loved to work in her flower garden, quilt, cook and bake. She was a devoted farm wife. During harvest at precisely 9 a.m., she would drive her little blue Ford pickup loaded with fresh baked goods to the field. Every crew member made sure they were on hand to enjoy the special treats and show Lydia their appreciation. In her later years, she enjoyed watching the farm operation from her window. She was a lifelong member of the Hardin E & R Church and an active member of the Women’s Guild.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years; her son Larry; her sisters, Marie Uffelman, Amelia Schilreff, Eva “Effie Blackford; her brothers, Fred, Henry, Harry, Victor, William and Edward Nedens.

She is survived by her son, Gary (Donna) Stricker, of Hardin; daughters, Sharon Mower (Mark Schug), of Minnesota, and Donna (Ray) Kuntz, of Billings; six grandchildren, Gary (Jodi) Stricker Jr., Lisa (Ted) McFarland, Jason Mower, Kara (Dave) Hedlund, Jonathan (Jesse) Kuntz, Alecia (Paul) Winkleman-Johnson; eight greatgrandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Annabelle Nedens; and her many loved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to the E & R Church, 703 North Cheyenne Ave., Hardin, MT 59034 or the Big Horn County Historical Society, 1163 3rd Street East, Hardin, MT 59034.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 22 the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are 11 a.m. on Jan. 23 at the E & R Church in Hardin. Interment to follow at the Hardin Fairview Cemetery.
