Charles (Benny) Benedict Jefferson, 75, of Crow Agency moved to his heavenly mansion on March 29, 2019.

“Ummachiachiiliish” (Seeks to Battle) was born on July 20, 1943 in Crow Agency, the oldest son of Charles and Bernice Pretty Weasel Jefferson.

Benny received his elementary education at Crow Public School. He attended Lodge Grass High School and the Institute of American Indian Art in Sante Fe, New Mexico and continued his education at the University of Montana in Missoula.

Benny loved sports. He received many awards in basketball, participated in track and field, football, softball, arrow throwing, and biking. You would always see him out on a walk, a run or at various sporting events supporting his loved ones or sitting on his porch in his beloved Redskins hat, enjoying the day.

He loved God, reading his Bible, listening to flute and Gospel music, driving around, eating ice cream, going to the movies and looking at Christmas lights. Benny always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and visiting with his many friends and family members, sharing stories of their lives, as a firefighter crew boss, working at the Sarpy Mine and at the Custer Battlefield Trading Post.

He was elected and honored to serve two terms as vice secretary of the Crow Tribe. Benny was a faithful member of the Crow Revival Center, proud member of the Ties the Bundle Clan and was a child of the Ties the Bundle Clan.

His parents; his children Ruben, Corma and Lonnie Lansing Jefferson, Joshua Stewart, Baby Girl Mountain Sheep, and Janet Bright Wings; his sisters Charlene Nomee, Marjorie Jefferson, Sherry Jefferson, Cheryl Yellowtail and Zona Dust; his brothers Gavin Jefferson, Albert, James, Bradford and Mike Takes Enemy; and his late wife Gladys Takes Horse Jefferson preceded Benny in death

Survivors include his wife Ruby Jefferson; his daughters Alfretta (Henry) Reed Sr., Angel (Alex) Valencia, Candy (Elliot) Mountain Sheep and Ruby Nellie; his sons Robin (Kristi) Jefferson, Isaiah (Amber) Stewart, Sr., Rocky Stewart, Wiley Jefferson, Miles, Judah and Elliot Ruben; his adopted child Carl Chester Alden Jr.; his grandchildren George (Cara), Henry Jr. (Whitney) and Kyle Reed, Selena (Patrick), Vanessa, Elena (Bryan), Benito and TJ Valencia; his best friend Kody LaFrance, Mija, Shaynee, Cole, Damien, Anna, Brooklynn, Starla, Roselynn and Phillip Firebear, Tillie, Isaiah Jr., Iverson and Israh Stewart, Josh, Brilee and Blythe Stewart, Christopher, Austin, Shayna, Devon and Ariana Jefferson; his greatgrandchildren Skylar and Kyrie Reed, Serena Stewart, Tristan and Rayvon Stewart; his sisters Dorthea Dust, Maxine Jefferson, LeeAnn Old Bull, Karen Birdhat, Jackie (Larry) Blacksmith, Leitha (Daniel) Gun Shows, Denise Nomee, Dorthy North Peigan, Evelyn Jefferson, Lydia (Dean) Hill, Jennifer Jefferson, Edwina Beaumont, Verena Costa, Clemencia Stops at Pretty Places, Rebecca Stovall, Tine (Conrad) Alden, Violet (Leonard) Wolf Black, Theda Jefferson, Mary (Gary) Whiteman, Susan Birdinground, Fray (Carlos) Nomee, Judy Jefferson, Junetta (Donald) Gardner, Sheila (Russell) Wallace and Carrie (Kevin) Old Coyote; his sisters/aunts Melissa (Wesley) Falls Down and Connie (Bruce) Russell Sr.; his brothers John, Franklin (Verna), Stephen and Tim (Edwina) Jefferson, Jerry (Ernastine), Robert (Frances), Daniel (Crystal) Takes Enemy Sr., Jonathan (Trudy) Takes Enemy, Calvin (Rebecca), Clinton (Margaret Gail) and Mike (Rita Rose) Stops, Arnold (Corette), Ervin (Carla) and Truman (Ellabeth) Jefferson, Reuben (Kathaleen) Yellowtail, Chipper (Janet) and Shane Fitzpatrick, Dave (Lilly), Raymond and Thomas (Tracy) Jefferson.

Benny loved his many nieces and nephews as his own and accepted many people as sisters and brothers. His extended family include Jefferson, Fitzpatrick, Takes Enemy, Carpenter, Pretty Weasel, Shane Doyle, Wilson, Hunts the Arrow, LaForge, Big Lake, Bird Rattler, Cummins, Hill, Adams, Little Owl, Other Medicine, Birdinground, Old Elk, Goes Ahead, Red Wolf, Bull Shield, Calf Rope, Old Horn, Plain Bull, Big Medicine, Real Bird, Moccasin, Dawes, Bell Rock, Not Afraid, Hoops, Morrison, Eugene Yarlott family, Ruth Alden family and Pickett family.

We would like to thank the many people who touched Benny’s life.

Funeral services were on Wednesday April 3, 2019 at the Spirit of Life Foursquare Church in Crow Agency. Interment followed in the Lodge Grass Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
