Injuries and errors plagued the young Hardin Bulldog football team as they fell to the Sidney Eagles 41-6 Friday night in Sidney.

The game started badly for the Bulldogs when a short kick at the opening led to a 57-yard runback to the Bulldogs’ 18-yard line, and Sidney scoring on the next play giving the Eagles a six-point lead.

On Hardin’s first possession of the first quarter a bad pitch out led to Sidney recovering the ball, and three plays later Sidney scored, and with a two-point conversion, led 14-0.

The second quarter was scoreless.

Hardin Head Coach Jake Lynch said, “We are pretty banged up on both the offensive and defensive lines.”

Lynch said, “We are throwing the ball well, but we have to minimize mistakes.”

The best drive of the game for Hardin came in the third quarter when the passing from Conner Schwend led the Bulldogs inside the Sidney five-yard line. The next play, Sidney intercepted the ball, ending the touchdown threat.

“We passed the ball well,” said Lynch. “But on two occasions we were inside Sidney’s 10-yard line and came away with no points.”

The third quarter ended with Sidney up 28-0.

In the fourth quarter, Hardin was finally able to put points on the board after Cassady Redden intercepted a Sidney pass. Hunter Popetsaitke gave Hardin its first score on a run, giving the Bulldogs six points.

The Eagles responded back with two scoring drives ending the game with Sidney’s win.

Offensively, Schwend threw 12-22 for 83 yards. Popetsaitke had three catches for 30 yards and Hardin’s only touchdown.

Ryan Old Crow had four carries for 24 yards, Popetsaitke two carries for 17 yards, and Redden one carry for 17 yards. Hardin had 138 yards of total offense.

Defensively, Ty Greenfield had 13 tackles, Miguel Lopez 10 tackles, Andrew House eight tackles and one half of a sack, Laramie Haug seven tackles, and Redden six tackles and one interception.

Friday, Hardin will be at home against Billings Central, game time 7 p.m.
