When I interviewed for the job of Big Horn County Library director in November, I was asked, “What’s your favorite book?” To be quite honest, that’s like asking me which one of my kids is my favorite. But when I asked if I could tell them my favorite author, that was easy: Craig Johnson.

I’ve been reading Johnson’s Longmire books for years and now and, like most Longmire fans, I find myself anxiously anticipating the release of the next one. His new installment of the Longmire saga is due in the Fall of 2019 and I can hardly wait.

Anytime you read a Craig Johnson story, most likely you’ll recognize some of the locations where it takes place and there’s a real good chance you’ll recognize a name or two, from Walt’s drives to Billings and having dinner at the “Brown Cow” restaurant to Walt and his daughter stopping at the Best Buy in Billings so she can get her laptop fixed.

That would be fun in and of itself, but on top of that you’ll find Johnson to be a truly fantastic storyteller. There’s outstanding writing, outstanding characters and the type of story that you don’t want to put down.

Okay, so all that being said, I think there are one or two people out there besides my wife that read this column regularly – and if you do, you also know what a huge Craig Johnson fan I am. And so I am absolutely thrilled to be able to announce that he will be at the Big Horn County Library to help us kick off National Library week in April.

If you were here for his last visit in October of 2017, you know he really is a first-rate speaker and takes time to talk to everyone and answer questions. Everyone there just raved about his last visit. Anyone who enjoys the Longmire novels or, for that matter, the Longmire series on Netflix will want to be here for this one. Be looking for posters around town with the exact date and time.

Also, this has been one crazy February for weather and, while we love having people coming down to check out books or for story time, we would like to encourage everyone to be very careful on the streets right now. Give yourself extra time to get here and be sure to dress for the cold.

We at the Big Horn County Library would like to wish everyone a warm and safe week.
