Having a hard time escaping the winter blues? Tired of shoveling snow? Did your wife dent your hunting truck this past year? Did your husband take a phone message with your eyeliner pencil? Has your daughter run off with a rock musician?

Sometimes it’s hard to stay positive, but this past Sunday we started daylight savings time and that of course means the days are getting longer and hopefully soon the weather will be warming up. Before we know it, we’ll be thinking about barbecues and baseball games.

We do have a few things coming up at the Big Horn County Library, not the least of which is author Craig Johnson’s visit next month. For all you fans out there, remember he’ll be here on Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet Mr. Johnson and ask questions about the inspiration for his stories.

The Craig Johnson visit also will help to kick off National Library Week. I know, only a library geek would get all excited about Library Week. It is a great time, however, to remember just how lucky we are as a community to have a library of this caliber. It really is a wonderful resource we have available to us and I don’t say that just because I work here. We get compliments continually from visitors about how nice a library we have and what a credit it is to the residents of this community.

This is just a bit further out, but I was contacted this past week by Holly Jay, a member of the quilting guild, asking about having the quilt show again this spring at the library. Long story short, the quilts will be going up the last part of May and will be up for viewing through most of June. This is always a great event and one that many look forward to in the community. We’ll have more details on how and when you can enter your quilts in the show as they become available to us.

Incidentally, if you have been looking for a way to get involved at the Big Horn County Library, there is a group called Friends of the Library that meets periodically to discuss ways of volunteering and helping with events. The Friends are the ones who sponsor the ongoing book sale we have as a way to raise money for different needs at the library. They also are responsible for the refreshments we often have at different events. If this is something that might interest you, feel free to contact us and we can help get you in touch with this group.

Continue to be careful on the streets, stay warm and remember spring is right around the corner.
