In a fabulous stroke of luck, thanks to generous donors and based on years of relationships, the Red Lodge-based 501(c)3, the Native American Children’s Association, was able to distribute over seven hundred new children’s coats this fall. As the Secretary/Treasurer, Mariann Guerrero Mahady remarked, “We knew our statewide network of volunteers could handle the challenge, even in these COVID-19 times. They have always stepped up to help when asked.” Over the years, the nonprofit, established in 2006, has been able to provide almost 9,000 new coats to deserving children both on the state’s reservations and in scattered Montana small towns over the years. The organization also provides food, such as whole turkeys and hams, to meet the extreme needs in areas where it is difficult to make a living.
